Manchester United confirmed this Monday the departure of Ruben Amorim from technical command. The 40-year-old Portuguese coach stayed in the job for 14 months and saw his resignation made official after last Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Leeds United in the Premier League.
Until a new coach is decided, the team will be provisionally managed by Darren Fletcher, former player of the club and current coach of the under-18 team. He will lead United this Wednesday, in the duel against Burnley, away, for the national championship.
With this change, the English press began reporting possible names to take over the team permanently. The list brings together professionals at different stages of their careers:
• Gareth Southgate: at 55, he has been available on the market since he left the command of the English team, in 2024, after a long cycle at the head of the national team.
• xavi: Aged 45, the former Spain midfielder has not worked since finishing his time at Barcelona last year.
• Enzo Maresca: Also aged 45, he was recently released from Chelsea and appears as an option after recent experience in the Premier League.
• Olivier Glasner: At 51, the Austrian currently manages Crystal Palace and has already been rated by major European clubs, including United themselves and Bayern Munich.
• Darren Fletcher: 41 years old, assumes the position on an interim basis. Identified with the club due to his athletic career, he could be considered for the position on a permanent basis if his initial performance is positive.
