The General Directorate of Culture and Education of the Province of Buenos Aires has officially published the school calendar for the 2026 cycle, which will apply to all levels and modalities of the Buenos Aires education system and aims to guarantee 190 effective teaching days.
The measure was formalized by Resolution 6568, published this Monday in the Official Gazette, which states that classes will begin on March 2 for primary, primary and secondary education – including technical, agricultural and artistic modalities -, special education, youth and adult education, physical education and supplementary education centers.
In all these cases, the resolution highlights that the winter holidays will be extended from July 20 to 31, while the end of the school year will be on December 22, 2026. The winter holidays will coincide, among other things, with the city of Buenos Aires.
At the higher level, the Buenos Aires calendar provides that the higher teaching, technical and artistic education cycle begins on March 16 and ends on November 27, with the winter break between July 20 and 31. The vocational training begins on March 9th and ends on December 18th, with the same holiday dates.
The calendar also includes institutional planning, which includes commemorations, celebrations and educational activities with local and regional roots and must be integrated into institutional, curricular and instructional planning. The aim is to “strengthen the cultural identity and democratic engagement of educational communities”.

The resolution also provides for the holding of five institutional days during the school year: two in February, one in August, one in December and an additional one to be determined by the district and institutional teams. It is also stipulated that the closing ceremony of the school year can take place between December 17th and 22nd.
Finally, it abolishes previous exceptions to compliance with the school calendar and stipulates that schools privately run through international agreements must adapt their school year to this general framework.
