The electoral progress in Extremadura has not gone well for the president of the community, María Guardiola, and the PP will continue to depend on Vox to be able to govern. Not only did the PP fail to obtain an absolute majority, but Vox doubled its seats and is now stronger than just two years ago. The PSOE, with a poor candidate also accused of alleged links to Pedro Sánchez’s brother, did not work to stoke fear of the far right and suffered a total debacle in one of the regions of Spain where it was the hegemonic party. The only hope for the left lies in the three seats won by Unidas por Extremadura, the coalition between Izquierda Unida and Podemos, which will add seven deputies to the Extremadura Assembly.
We analyze the results and the repercussions of these elections on national politics with Santiago Manchado, director of elDiario.es in Extremadura, José Manuel Romero, deputy director and responsible for politics, and with the political scientists Pablo Simón and Lluís Orriols.
