
A senior commander of the Russian army general staff died Monday after his car exploded in a neighborhood south of Moscowas reported by the Russian Investigative Committee (CIR), which attributed the attack to Ukrainian intelligence.
“According to the investigation, (…) an explosive device placed under a car was activated on Yasenevo Street in Moscow. As a result of the injuries sustained, the head of the Military Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General, died. Fanil Sarvarov“, said CIR spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko.
He said investigators were considering different versions of the killing, one of which links the attack to Ukrainian intelligence services. “The main investigative service of the CIR has opened criminal proceedings for murder and illegal trafficking in explosive substances,” he said.
He indicated that investigators and criminalists from the central office of the CIR have already been dispatched to the scene of the events.
“The examination of the scene continues. Investigators will carry out the necessary expertise, in particular forensic and explosives. Witnesses are being questioned and security cameras are being examined,” he said.
The CIR published a video of the damaged car on Telegram, in which traces of the victim’s blood are visible.
Since the start of the war, Russia has accused Ukraine of having carried out several similar attacks which cost the lives of, among others, Lieutenant General Yaroslav Moskalikdeputy head of the operations command of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces and lieutenant general Igor Kirilovhead of radiological, chemical and biological defense of Russia.
