Brother of singers Zezé di Camargo and Luciano, Wellington Camargo joined the PL, Jair Bolsonaro’s party, and will be a candidate for the post of federal deputy for Sergipe in 2026. In contact with the chronicle this Monday (22/12), he declared wanting to work in the National Congress “since he was a child” and that he intends to focus on the fight against violence and public policies for the Northeast.
“My intention is to try to contain some of the violence in this country. I was a victim of the violence. Brazil followed. And we must try to contain it so that it does not reach our homes,” said Wellington Camargo, a victim of kidnapping in 1999, when he spent 96 days in the hands of criminals and had part of his ear cut off.

According to Wellington Camargo, gospel singer, his pre-candidacy is part of a movement aimed at increasing the party’s presence in Brasilia.
“I made my name known as part of a PL strategy to strengthen the party in Sergipe and contribute to building a solid platform. Our goal is to help elect (federal deputy) Rodrigo Valadares to the Senate and (senator) Flávio Bolsonaro to the presidency,” he said.

Camargo’s Wellington said if elected, he intends to work to improve job opportunities in the Northeast. Between 2002 and 2006, the artist held the seat of State Deputy in the Legislative Assembly of Goiás.
“I want to look for resources to bring more jobs and industries to Sergipe. I want to emphasize that we do not need to leave our state to try to make a living. That is, in my state I have the conditions. Those who followed the story of my family, through the film “Two Sons of Francisco”, saw that it was a very difficult life, a struggle. I want to work for all of Brazil, but especially for the people of the Northeast.”
Recently, Zezé di Camargo stood out by protesting against the presence of President Lula and Minister Alexandre de Moraes (STF) at the inauguration of a news channel. The episode led the performer to call for the cancellation of the Christmas special he had taped for the network.
