Allies of Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB) predict that the current President of the House will change his position in 2026 and wink more at the Lula government than in 2025, when he took command of the House.
The main reason would be the October elections. Motta not only intends to be re-elected as a deputy, but he also wants to nominate his father, Nabor Wanderley, senator from Paraíba, a state where Lula has a good vote.

Motta and his father are part of the base of the current governor of Paraíba, João Azevêdo (PSB). The Pessebista can no longer seek re-election next year, but will give Lula a platform as a Senate candidate.
Another reason why Motta would be more pro-government, according to his allies, would be Lula’s gestures towards the deputy. Last week, the president named Gustavo Feliciano, an ally of the Speaker of the House, as tourism minister.

Another factor for Motta to approach the Palácio do Planalto would be the polls, say the allies of the President of the Chamber. It is estimated that, in the coming months, Lula will consolidate his favoritism for the October elections.
One of the reasons for this bet is the choice of Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) as right-wing candidate. The candidacy of Jair Bolsonaro’s son is expected to divide the center-right, giving rise to more than one candidacy in this area.
Faced with this scenario, the allies hope that Motta will resume the work of the Chamber in February 2026 with two important gestures towards the Lula government.
The President of the House must vote for the Antifaction PL with the Senate text, which Planalto likes, and the PEC Security, one of Lula’s bets to surf the issue during the presidential elections.
