57% of Gen Z admit they know very little about cybersecurity and only 33.2% of those under 30 follow the bank’s own advice.
This isn’t the first time Gen Z’s digital divide has been exposed. Although this is a generation raised around technology, their abilities to enjoy or live with it leave as much to be desired as in the case of older people. The proof is the data revealed by a survey by the Spanish Confederation of Savings Banks (CECA).
The association carried out a questionnaire focused on cybersecurity, in which it questioned young people between 18 and 29 years old on the subject. Among all those surveyed, 57% of Generation Z admit to having little knowledge in the field.
The digital divide of Generation Z
Scams are well known in which, through phone calls or text messages, elderly people are manipulated and convinced to provide specific data allowing cybercriminals to access their information. For generations who are unfamiliar with how this type of fraud works, this possibility is even understandable. In the case of Generation Z, not so much.
In the same survey, it was found that 28% of young people believe that their bank can contact them through unofficial channels, such as SMS, emails and even WhatsApp messages, to carry out operations in which passwords or sensitive data are requested.
