Already confirmed by the brand’s vice president, the new BYD Dolphin G plug-in hybrid will be produced in Hungary and will not reach the Chinese market
BYD Dolphin will soon have an important new feature. Currently sold only in electric versions, the Chinese sedan is preparing to receive a new plug-in hybrid configuration on the European market. The information was confirmed by BYD’s global vice president, Stella Li, during an interview with Autocar magazine. The new BYD Dolphin G will have around 260 hp and will not be sold in China, but could soon arrive in Brazil.
The BYD Dolphin hybrid will have a “European design”
The new BYD Dolphin G will be produced in Hungary and will compete with models such as the Volkswagen Golf GTE and MG4 in the European market. Despite its common name, the Chinese model will be different from the current Dolphin. The publication states that the new hatch will have a design designed for the European public and that it should have measurements between the current Dolphin Mini and the electric Dolphin GS.
The engine must be the same as that already used by the BYD Atto 2 (Yuan Pro in Brazil) in Europe. It is equipped with a 1.5-inch naturally aspirated engine paired with an electric front-wheel drive unit. The package offers around 260 hp of combined power, with up to 90 km of range in exclusively electric mode.
A new hybrid Dolphin could arrive in Brazil
Initially, the new BYD Dolphin G is expected to arrive on the European market in 2026. However, as the Chinese brand offers hybrid and electric models in other countries outside China, the sedan has a chance to be sold in Brazil in the future, with production in Camaçari (BA) and a flexible engine like the Song Plus.
