Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Foreign Minister of Thailand, announced a new round of bilateral negotiations on Monday, December 22. This came at the end of a meeting with his counterparts from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), of which Cambodia is a member.
He told reporters in Kuala Lumpur that “the discussion will be held within the framework of the already existing JBC, the Joint Boundary Committee” and will take place on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, the date proposed by the Cambodian side.

Fresh clashes between the two countries that began this month have left at least 23 people dead in Thailand and 20 in Cambodia, while more than 900,000 people were displaced on both sides, authorities said.
The conflict has its roots in an old dispute over the demarcation of the 800 km long border established in the colonial era and a number of ancient temples along the border area.
Currently, Cambodia has not commented on the announcement, but the country’s Defense Ministry had previously denounced that fighting continued today and accused Thailand of firing artillery shells.
