The Ministry of Defense has activated a new tender related to the development of the Monte la Reina military camp, located in the municipality of Toro, in the province of Zamora. The procedure concerns three buildings essential to the operation of the future barracks and represents a key administrative step in the timetable planned by the department.
The initiative comes in parallel with the major urbanization operation of the site, considered to be the technical base on which all the planned military infrastructure will be built. Both actions are part of a phased planning that aims to ensure the operation of the complex from its earliest stages.
The data that marks this new impulse is the allocated budget: eight million euros intended for the construction of three strategic buildings, with an estimated execution time of 15 months. The work was entrusted jointly after completion of the corresponding technical projects.
The three buildings which are entering the execution phase
The tender includes the Communications Center, the Guardhouse and the Armory, three elements considered essential for the security, control and operation of the military camp.
Campus Communications Center
The Communications Center building was designed to house sensitive and high security systems. The project includes specific air conditioning installations, advanced fire detection and extinguishing systems, reinforced security doors, electronic access control and physical protection measures such as grilles and volumetric sensors.
These characteristics meet the standards required for military infrastructures that manage strategic information and communications, ensuring operational continuity and protection against technical or security incidents.
Armory and ammunition room
The second action corresponds to the construction of a new building intended for the storage of weapons, sensitive equipment and ammunition. The design meets the specific security, control and traceability protocols required for this type of installation.
The armory will be integrated into the general scheme of the camp and will be ready to meet the operational needs of the units deployed to Monte la Reina once it reaches full activity.
Guardhouse and access controls
The third project includes primary and secondary access control for the facility, as well as the Guardhouse building. Its function will be to centralize surveillance, identification of entrances and exits and perimeter security of the barracks.
This point is considered one of the critical nodes of the complex, because it articulates the relationship between the military complex and its external environment.
Direct dependence on the urbanization of the camp
The three buildings are subject to the prior execution of the camp urbanization works, currently also in the tender phase. This action has a budget estimated at 27 million euros and sets the planned start date as July 1, 2026.
Urbanization includes roads, basic services, technical networks and land development, which are essential for construction work to begin without the risk of delays or technical interference.
A unified call for tenders to optimize resources
Defense has chosen to group the three projects into a single call for tenders. According to the technical justification, the actions are carried out within a reduced spatial perimeter, which makes it possible to optimize human and material resources if they are executed jointly.
The division into independent lots, according to the administrative analysis, could generate coordination problems, overlapping work and less efficiency in the overall execution of the project.
Monte la Reina as a strategic enclave in Zamora
The development of the Monte la Reina military camp is intended to become one of the main centers of defense activity in Castilla y León. In addition to its military dimension, the project has economic and logistical implications for the province of Zamora.
The Ministry of Defense has repeatedly highlighted the site’s potential to attract industrial activity linked to technology, maintenance and services linked to the military field.
With the tender for these three new buildings and the imminent urbanization of the site, Monte la Reina consolidates its roadmap as a strategic infrastructure, placing Zamora on the map of major defense projects in the medium and long term.
