Criminal lawyer Antônio Carlos de Almeida Castro, known as Kakay, denied having access to privileged information about a search and seizure operation authorized by the 13th Federal Court of Curitiba and which targets abuses committed during Lava Jato. He reacted to a message from prosecutor Hélio Telho.
“A car wash prosecutor, friend of Moro, said I had inside information, divulging the search operation of the 13th Federal Court of Curitiba. In fact, many customers have already told me that he is a professional leaker,” Kakay said in a note sent to the Chronicle.
“In fact, there was no irregularity. I defend Tony Garcia and I speak to him daily about these facts. Journalists following the investigation have been speculating for some time about this search and seizure and the day before they called me to say exactly that. The day the measure was launched, the lawyer in Curitiba called me to tell me that the search was taking place. Based on this, I wrote a small note to inform some journalists.”
The lawyer added that he did not have recordings of these conversations because he had changed cell phones during a trip to France.
In a message, Hélio Telho wrote: “Kakai publicly confessed that they sent him a message to carry out the operation at the 13th Federal Court of Curitiba. This is a violation of judicial secrecy, provided as an offense in the Penal Code. Investigating this offense is not difficult, you just need to want to investigate. Seize Kakai’s cell phone and check the messages he received the day before and the day of the operation.”
About the operation
The aforementioned operation is the result of the investigations carried out by the 13th Federal Court of Curitiba within the framework of the investigations linked to Lava Jato, which focus on the facts revealed by the businessman and former money changer Tony Garcia, collaborator of the Ministry of Justice.
These measures include court-authorized searches and seizures to gather evidence and have generated political and legal repercussions because they involve figures who have worked behind the scenes of the operation in recent years.
