The National Court convicted 29 people, including six former mayors of the Community of Madrid, for corruption crimes committed in the awarding of million-dollar contracts to the Cofely company in exchange for commissions and gifts between 2012 and 2014 as part of the so-called Punic Plot. The main sentence fell on David Marjaliza, the corrupter of this plot and former partner of Francisco Granados – who was not tried in this room -, who was sentenced to eight years and two months in prison.
The court sentenced to prison terms the former mayor of Móstoles Daniel Ortiz Espejo, the mayor of Collado Villalba Agustín Juárez, the mayor of Moraleja de Enmedio Carlos Alberto Estrada, all from the PP; in Serranillos del Valle, Antonio Sánchez Fernández, from an independent party, as well as the socialist José María Fraile, former municipal councilor of Parla.
Likewise, he sentences to prison the brothers Alejandro and Mario Utrilla, the first former environmental councilor of Móstoles and the second former regional deputy of the PP and former mayor of Seville La Nueva.
For the councilor of Torrejón de Velasco Gonzalo Cubas, of the PP, the sentence is a special disqualification, while those of Almendralejo (Badajoz) José García Lobato and Valdemoro, José Carlos Boza, of the same party were acquitted.
