
A woman identified as Elisangela Santos Oliveira (featured photo) She was murdered by her husband with a sickle on Sunday evening (12/21). The crime occurred in the Santa Luzia neighborhood, Petrolina, Sertão de Pernambuco.
According to testimonies, Elisângela, who worked as a teacher, was returning from church when she was surprised by her husband at the gate of her house. She was rescued and taken to hospital, but did not survive her injuries.

Preliminary investigations
According to the civil police, the main suspect in the crime is the victim’s husband. According to testimonies from relatives of the couple, he was a drug addict and had a habit of displaying aggressive behavior when under the influence of drugs.
After the attack, the man fled, but was found hiding in an empty lot in the same neighborhood. The scythe used in the crime was seized by authorities.
Statement
In a statement, the Petrolina City Hall, through the Department of Education, Culture and Sport, deplored the death of the teacher. The organization expressed its rejection of any form of violence against women and its solidarity with family, friends and the school community.
“Elisangela leaves behind a career marked by care, dedication and commitment to early childhood education, contributing significantly to the education and support of so many children and families in the school community,” the memo said.
