The action concerns crimes related to January 8 whose trial was suspended during the mandate; Any conviction may result in additional sanctions.
THE Federal Court (STF) was the subject of a new criminal action against the former director of Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin) Alexandre Ramagem (PL-RJ), already convicted in the coup process. The case was transmitted to Minister Alexandre de Moraes and, in the event of a new conviction, a possible sentence could be added to that already served by the former parliamentarian.
The new action concerns two crimes linked to the attacks of January 8 who had been suspended while Ramagem held a parliamentary mandate. Since the charges referred to events that occurred after graduation, the STF had stopped the trial on the basis of immunity provided by the Constitution. With the revocation of the warrant, the Court ordered the process to resume and reinstated the case as a new criminal action.
Last week, the board of directors of Chamber of Deputies declared the loss of Ramagem’s mandatewho is on the run UNITED STATES. Former MP Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), also present in the country, saw his mandate revoked the same day.
Moraes also scheduled an evidentiary hearing for February 5, 2026, via videoconference, to hear prosecution and defense witnesses and question the defendant. The prosecution is led by Office of the Attorney General (PGR).
In the main case, which has already become definitive, Ramagem was sentenced to 16 years, 1 month and 15 days in prison for participation in the coup attempt aimed at overturning the result of the 2022 elections. After his conviction, he left the country and went to the United States in September, as revealed by the PlatôBR portal. Last month, Moraes ordered preventive detention of the former MP.
