The death of a 54-year-old man and his 17-year-old daughter, both of whom live in the city of Avellaneda, brings the death toll from traffic accidents in the region so far in 2025 to 77. Motorcycles are the segment with the greatest relative growth. During the period in which the total park grew by around 150 percent, motorcycles grew twice as much or even more: between 300 and 350 percent.
In 2006 there were around 23,000 registered; Today the city has almost 100,000 inhabitants. Virtually one in five vehicles in the local park is a motorcycle, a profound change in the regional mobility matrix.
Undoubtedly, the massive emergence of small vehicles reveals a gap between the needs and resources of mobility and the ability of the state to enforce order. The question is whether this can be remedied before the deterioration becomes irreversible. Meanwhile, calls for action are increasing.
