Yesterday’s sweltering day brought rain that will continue for most of Christmas Eve.
The big question that the people of La Plata are currently asking themselves is whether Christmas will be celebrated with a table indoors or outdoors. In this context, the extended forecast from the National Meteorological Service (SMN) assumes that the bad weather will continue until the arrival of Santa Claus.
No rain is expected during the morning. The sky is partly cloudy and the temperature is around 24 degrees. Rainfall and a temperature rise of up to 33 degrees are expected from 2 p.m. Around 9 p.m., when it’s time to sit down at the table to enjoy Christmas Eve dinner, it will continue to rain, but with a significant drop in temperature, which will be around 22 degrees.
A day with mostly cloudy skies and temperatures around 29 degrees is expected for Christmas. The weather is expected to improve in the afternoon, although the sky will remain slightly cloudy and the sun will shine at times. The minimum will be around 20 degrees.
Surprisingly temporary
After a day of intense heat, a surprise storm front with strong winds and abundant waterfalls hit the city of Buenos Aires and various parts of the Metropolitan Area (AMBA) yesterday afternoon.
Heavy hail and flooding were recorded in several areas. There was no prognosis for this. On the Pan-American Highway, at Márquez and Thames, several cars were under water as a result of the road’s flooding, necessitating a reduction in traffic. The problems spread to, among others, San Martín and San Isidro and other districts in the northern zone.
During the intensely hot day, the temperature reached 30°C and the wind chill reached 34°C. After the storm the thermometer dropped to 22°C and there was relief.
For today, the National Meteorological Service has issued a yellow warning for possible meteorological phenomena with “potential for damage” in the central strip of the province.
