The year of 2025 was busy on Brazilian television. It all started with the anticipation of the remake of the classic Everything is allowedhe saw William Bonner leave the bench National newspaper and ended with controversy during the debut of a new channel, the SBT News.
A look back at the highlights of the past year below.
Manuela Dias’ mistakes in “Vale Tudo”
For open TV serials, the year promised to be glorious with the remake of Everything is allowedone of the most emblematic productions of Brazilian television fiction, first broadcast between 1988 and 1989. However, the author Manuela Dias made a mistake in the adaptation and misinterpreted the original story. The year marked the arrival of “vertical soap operas”
The novelty of the year, however, is the Brazilian vertical soap operas. With short chapters – three minutes maximum – this type of production is aimed at platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X and YouTube. Bonner’s farewell to the “Jornal Nacional”
The biggest news in the world of television journalism in 2025 was probably the departure of William Bonner from National newspaper, from Globo. The announcement was officially made on September 1 and his farewell aired the following month on October 31. He led (as presenter and editor-in-chief) the main Brazilian news show for 29 years and “passed the baton” to César Tralli.
SBT News debuts
Another point was the launch of the SBT Newsnews channel of the Silvio Santos group. Launched at a moment of hot news, its launch event attracted attention with the presence of authorities such as President Lula (PT), STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes, Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) and São Paulo Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB).
In the following days, the channel was also put in the spotlight when singer Zezé Di Camargo asked SBT to remove from the program a special show he had recorded with the channel.
Changes
The year 2025 also saw several changes to broadcasters’ programming. João Silva, son of Faustão, for example, left Band for SBT – the João’s program debuted in May on the new channel. Ticiane Pinheiro left Record after more than 20 years at the station, following the move of César Tralli, her husband, to Rio de Janeiro.
In journalism, one of the highlights has been Rodrigo Bocardi, presenter of Hello Sao Paulofired from Globo for – according to the channel – “non-compliance with ethical standards”. From Globo, Michelle Loreto and Bárbara Coelho resigned. Sérgio Aguiar left Record after six years.
Reality TV in 2025
In an edition that featured Gracyanne Barbosa, the Hypólito brothers and Vitória Strada as the main celebrities, the winner of BBB 25 was the “anonymous” Renata. Already The Farm 17of Record, was won by Dudu Camargo, former presenter of SBT. Duda Wendling finished second and Saory Cardoso finished third.
2025 was also Boninho’s first year after leaving Globo. The director worked on the version of The Voice Brazil presented by SBT and Disney+.

The year following the contest for mayor of São Paulo, José Luiz Datena had a difficult time. After leaving Band in the second half of 2024, he started 2025 at SBT, but left the broadcaster in May. Shortly after, he took a position at RedeTV!. From now on, everything indicates that his new path will be TV Brasil, a public channel.
