The Minister of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes, authorized the hospitalization and surgical intervention of former President Jair Bolsonaro, scheduled for this Thursday (25). However, this authorization was accompanied by a series of strict determinations and should, therefore, avoid what political commentators call a “media spectacle” around the state of health of the former president.
For the new procedure – an operation for an inguinal hernia – Moraes banned the entry of any electronic devices, including cell phones, into the hospital room where Bolsonaro will stay.
Although the minister’s decree focuses on maintaining the conditions of penal execution (since Bolsonaro is serving a definitive sentence of 27 years), the numerical restriction ends up neutralizing a possible communication strategy that marked the former president’s previous hospitalizations: exploring the episode.
This Tuesday (23), Bolsonaro canceled at the last minute an exclusive interview that he would give to the Metropoles portal, directly from the superintendence of the federal police, where he is detained.
The team of journalists was already there when they received a handwritten note from Bolsonaro alleging “health problems” linked to the cancellation.
Behind the scenes, it appears there was heavy pressure from the defense and family members for the interview not to take place, fearing statements that could jeopardize his legal position.
In a video posted on social networks, the senator commented on his father’s state of health, asking for prayers and justifying his absence for a pre-operative indisposition.
Bolsonaro must remain under close guard and surveillance throughout his convalescence period in hospital, in accordance with the protocol determined by the Supreme Court.
