A 45-year-old worker, SY, was seriously injured this Wednesday after falling from a roof during a work accident that occurred at 10:08 a.m. La Puebla de Montalbán (Toledo)as reported by security service sources … emergency.
The event occurred when, for reasons which are under investigation, the operator fell from a considerable height while carrying out work on the roof of a municipal fattening farm. After notification to 112 of Castilla-La Mancha, Health personnel attended the scenewho treated the worker and immediately transported him by helicopter to University Hospital in Toledo. His condition was serious.
This accident occurs in a context of concern about work accidents in the regionparticularly with regard to falls from height, which remain one of the most frequent causes of serious injuries in the professional field.
Trade union organizations and the UGT recently highlighted that falls at different levels represent a significant risk and “one of the easiest accidents to avoid if the measures established by regulations” for the prevention of occupational risks are adopted, while calling for greater involvement of businesses and authorities to ensure safety in the workplace.

According to the latest available data, Castilla-La Mancha has recorded a high number of work accidents with serious or fatal consequences, placing it among the autonomous communities with the highest incidence of accidents in Spain. In 2024, IThe region closed the year with 58 workers dead due to workplace accidents, a notable increase compared to the previous year and with thousands of claims reported in total.
Accidents due to falls from height, such as the one that occurred in La Puebla de Montalbán, have been in the news in various parts of the region in recent months. Last July, for example, unions reported several similar incidents in different locations and they demanded further investigation into the causes to prevent a recurrence.
The Labor Inspectorate and the competent authorities generally emphasize the need to strengthen preventive measures, specific safety training and strict compliance with the rules aimed at reducing these accidents which, in many cases, could be avoided with proper planning and monitoring of occupational risks.
