The Ukrainian capital, Kiev, was subjected to a “huge” attack, according to what the city’s mayor announced on Friday (Thursday evening, Brasilia time), where explosions occurred, according to journalists at Agence France-Presse. Moscow, which launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine in 2022, has intensified its attacks on Kiev in recent months, particularly targeting Ukrainian energy facilities, railway systems and residential areas.

Moscow and Kiev have intensified their attacks on energy infrastructure in recent months, repeating a strategy already used throughout more than three years of war, with winter approaching. Russia has been attacking the Ukrainian electricity and heating grid for nearly four years, destroying much of the civilian infrastructure. For its part, Ukraine continues to intensify attacks on oil depots and refineries in Russia, with the aim of cutting off vital energy exports to Moscow and causing fuel shortages.
