A 4-year-old child died this Tuesday afternoon (23), after an incident in the swimming pool of the Centro Esportivo Lapa, known as Pelezão, west of São Paulo. The incident occurred around 5 p.m., when the space was open for recreational use by the population.
According to the SEME (Municipal Sports and Leisure Service), the unit had a team of rescuers who immediately initiated emergency procedures until the arrival of the Samu and firefighters.
According to information, the Samu carried out resuscitation maneuvers, but the child did not resist and was pronounced dead on the spot.
The GCM (Metropolitan Civil Guard) was called and provided support for the incident, particularly for the preservation of the site. The case has been registered with the 91st Police District, which will be in charge of the investigation.
The child was taking part in an outing with a group of other children linked to an institutional reception service. The circumstances of the incident are still under investigation.
In a statement, the sports department said it regretted what happened and was awaiting the conclusion of expert assessments to clarify the causes of death.
