Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said Thursday he does not know whether he will continue in office if President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is elected to a fourth term next year. This was stated in an interview with the newspaper “O Estado de S. Paulo”.
Haddad said in response to a question about whether he intends to continue in office during a possible fourth term if it were not for him: “I don’t know if I have this intention, let’s see.”
In the interview, Haddad also reiterated that he does not intend to run for elected office next year, despite Lula’s requests.
“I don’t talk about it yet, but he (Lula) knows my tendencies. It’s been a long time, and this is nothing new. I told him last year that I don’t intend to be a candidate in 2026,” he said.
The head of the Ministry of Finance also did not guarantee that he would be in his current position in May next year. April is the deadline for ministers to request the dismissal of their positions if they want to run in the elections.
“I don’t know, I haven’t spoken to him (Lula) yet. I already said that I delivered everything he asked for. And what he asked for, I delivered,” he said.
