Luis García Tevenet recently began a spell in Brazil as Botafogo’s assistant coach before returning to Spain to take charge of Real Valladolid. According to the information published by the club itself and reported by various media, the Sevillian coach will take over the management of the first team after the departure of the Uruguayan coach Guillermo Almada, with the aim of renewing the squad and focusing on the development of young players. The 51-year-old Tevenet has signed until the end of the current season, Real Valladolid reported via its official channels.
Real Valladolid explained that the agreement with Tevenet includes not only the technical direction, but also a clear commitment to use the coach’s career in developing and guiding young talent. The club said the coach came with the intention of taking an important step in his professional career and taking on what he called a “big challenge”. According to Real Valladolid in its press release, Tevenet’s experience as a coach will be a key element from the first day of work.
Luis García Tevenet was born in Seville on May 8, 1974 and has a professional career that includes both his time as a footballer and a consolidated career on the substitutes’ bench. According to official information from the Blanquivioleta club, Tevenet’s career began in the 2008/09 season as head coach of Orihuela CF. He later coached Jerez Industrial and later took on the position of second coach at Sevilla FC, where he also played in the past.
Over the years, the Andalusian coach has managed various Spanish football teams, including San Roque de Lepe, UCAM Murcia, FC Cartagena, SD Huesca, Hércules CF, Sevilla Atlético and Atlético Levante. The media club reported that he was promoted to the second division with SD Huesca, while with Atlético de Madrid B he achieved two consecutive promotions, namely from Tercera RFEF to Primera RFEF.
In his final phase in Spanish football, Tevenet gained experience as an assistant to the first team of Atlético de Madrid in the 2024/25 season, working directly with Diego Pablo Simeone. This was highlighted by Real Valladolid when reflecting on his career before his foray into Brazilian football as part of Botafogo’s coaching staff.
With a record of 423 games as head coach, as reported by the Pucelano club, Tevenet now moves to Real Valladolid with the challenge of responding to the sporting needs of the institution and achieving the club’s objectives for the rest of the season. The board’s commitment includes integrating promising young players into the first team, taking advantage of the “ability to manage and develop young talent”, a quality that Real Valladolid referred to in its official statement when introducing the new coach.
Over the course of his career, Tevenet has also taken on various roles, alternating between main roles in supporting teams and experience as a technical assistant at the highest level, which the club say has raised his profile for rebuilding projects and squad progression. Real Valladolid’s policy highlights the importance of a gradual and orderly transition in this new phase following the departure of the previous coach and in search of greater competitiveness in this category.
The white and purple club believe that with the arrival of Tevenet the team can look forward to the end of the season with renewed energy, supported by a strategy that combines the coach’s accumulated experience and his history in developing young footballers. The official communication concluded by emphasizing that it was a crucial commitment to training and a commitment to the future, values that it is hoped will be translated into sporting results in the current season.
