A recent survey found that the risk of this type of injury increases during the Christmas period. According to the study, cases of penile fracture are mainly concentrated between December 24 and 26, a period when there is a significant increase in emergency care related to this problem.

A penile fracture is usually quickly recognized by the victim: it usually involves an audible noise, followed by severe pain and immediate loss of erection. Although there are no bones in the penis, the injury occurs when the internal tissue ruptures due to sudden bending or impact during sexual intercourse.

Sexual positions that make it easier to break
Among the situations most associated with the problem is the so-called reverse cowgirl position, in which the person being penetrated sits with their back to their partner. In this configuration, there is a greater risk that the penis will slip and experience compression against the pubic bone, causing rupture.
Despite the warning, experts emphasize that this disease is rare. Estimates from the National Institutes of Health indicate that only one in 100,000 men will experience this type of injury in their lifetime.
