President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) spoke this Thursday (25/12) on the case of waiter David Cosac Junior, 49, of the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU), caught attacking a woman and her son on the 7th. The president declared that he had ordered the expulsion of this man.
“The cowardly attack by an official of the Comptroller General of the Union against a woman and a child, published on video by the press, is unacceptable and requires a firm response from the public authorities, given that it is a federal civil servant. This is why I ordered Minister Vinícius de Carvalho, Comptroller General of the Union, to immediately open an internal process to hold the attacker accountable and expel him from the public service,” Lula said in a post on x.
The head of Planalto also added: “We will not turn a blind eye to abusers of women and children, wherever they are and whatever position they occupy. A public servant must be an example of conduct inside and outside the workplace. The fight against femicide and all forms of violence against women is a commitment and priority of my government.”
The video revealed by columnist Mirelle Pinheiro, from Metropolisesshows the moment of violence. The waiter appears to kick and push the woman and child into the garage of a building in Águas Claras, Brasilia (DF).
According to the portal, the attacker receives a monthly salary of R$25,000 as an auditor of the agency. He is still at large after committing the crime.
CGU speaks
The Minister of CGU, Vinícius Carvalho, spoke in a note in which he disavowed the situation. He also said the Comptroller’s Office would take action regarding the matter.
“I want to be clear when I say that violence against women and children is a crime. It is not a matter of disagreement, private conflict or personal problem. We are talking about aggression, violation of the law and attack on human dignity (…) The CGU will follow the case and adopt all appropriate measures within the framework of its own powers, with rigor, responsibility and respect for legal procedure”, indicates an extract from the note.
