
At least 60 people arrested after 2024 presidential election in Venezuela was released for Christmasas reported this Thursday by an organization made up of human rights activists and relatives of political prisoners.
The arrests were made in connection with the political crisis following the re-election of Nicolas Maduro for a third term in July last year, a process questioned by the opposition, which denounced irregularities and electoral fraud.
After the results were announced, protests broke out in various parts of the country, leading to a wave of arrests. Maduro himself described the arrested demonstrators as “terrorists”. According to official information, around 2,400 people have been arrested and more than 2,000 have already been released.

The conditions under which the releases took place are not yet exactly known. Venezuelan prosecutors did not respond to the news agency’s inquiries.
According to relatives, several of those released remained detained at the high-security prison in Tocorón, Aragua state, about 84 miles (134 kilometers) from Caracas, which was set up to house post-election detainees. Releases were also reported from other prisons in the country.
