The president of the Superior Labor Court (TST), Minister Luiz Philippe Vieira de Mello Filho, approved a decision that obliges Correios to keep 80% of its workforce active in the event of a strike. Last week, workers at the state agency announced an indefinite strike to demand a pay increase.
Made on December 18 by Minister Kátia Magalhães Arruda, rapporteur of the file, the decision establishes a daily fine of R$100,000 in the event of non-compliance.
Vieira de Mello Filho also called an extraordinary session on Tuesday (12/30) to deliberate on the strike, even with the suspension of the judiciary.
The strike began on December 16. The movement strengthened on Tuesday evening (12/23), when the majority of unions rejected the draft collective agreement for 2025/2026, discussed during mediation led by the vice-presidency of the Court.

The decision arose from a collective strike dispute, a legal action brought by the ECT (Brazilian Post and Telegraph Company). In analyzing the request, the President of the TST considered the essential nature of the postal service, provided exclusively in the country, and assessed the serious risks of interruption for the entire community, with particular attention to the critical end-of-year period.
The unions Fentect (National Federation of Workers of Postal, Telegraph and Similar Companies) and Findect (Interstate Federation of Postal Workers’ Unions) have received a summons and must present their defense within 24 hours. The MPT (Public Ministry of Labor) was also officially convened to participate in the process.
