
The president of the Fenerbahçe club, Sadettin Saran, was provisionally released with charges this Thursdaya day after being arrested on suspicion of drug use, Turkey’s Anadolu Agency reported.
Sadettin Saran was arrested on Wednesday as part of a a vast operation for suspected cocaine consumption during which dozens of artists, social media personalities, journalists and businessmen were arrested or summoned to testify for days.
Hair samples were taken from numerous investigators to analyze drugs and In Saran’s case, the hair test was positive, while blood, urine and nail samples were negative, Anadolu said.
Saran categorically denied having used cocaine and assured that it was a smear campaign against him and the club he represents.
The prosecution, however, maintains against him the three accusations of “drug use”, “providing drugs to others” and “facilitating drug use.”
For this last accusation, The court requires Saran to regularly go to the police station to signin addition to maintaining the ban on traveling abroad, imposed a few days ago.
The management of Fenerbahçe expressed itself in several statements his full support to Saran and thanked the fans for their supportwho met in front of the courts this Thursday, but asked them to show maximum respect for Justice.
Sadettin Saran, 61-year-old businessman, born in Denver (United States), son of a Turk and an American, owns Saran Holding, which includes sports media, the cinema and tourism industry.
He became president of the Fenerbahçe sports club, whose football section is the second most successful in Türkiye, last September. in a close vote in which he outperformed his predecessorbusinessman Ali Koç.
