MADRID, December 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ordered Friday to expand and modernize missile production next year, including building new factories in the Asian country to meet the needs of the North Korean military.
“To meet the anticipated demands of the Korean People’s Army’s missile and artillery forces, it is necessary to continually raise the level of modernization of the munitions industry by establishing new enterprises… and constantly improving the production structure of existing factories in a more efficient and practical manner,” he said during a visit to a munitions factory with senior North Korean officials.
The leader also defended during the event that “the missile and projectile production sector is of vital importance to strengthen military deterrence”, according to the official KCNA news agency.
These statements come just a day after visiting a factory in North Korea dedicated to the manufacture of nuclear submarines, from where he noted that “given the negative security situation (…) this is an urgent task and an indispensable option to further accelerate the radical development of modernization and nuclear weapons of the North Korean naval force.”
Furthermore, the North Korean Ministry of Defense denounced the same day the entry of an American nuclear submarine into South Korean waters, the “USS Greeneville”, and stressed that Washington “is less and less concealed in its attempts to create a serious element of nuclear instability in the security context of North Korea”.
“The United States is moving closer and closer to the critical level in its attempt to gain strategic advantage in the region by evolving its military alliance with South Korea into a nuclear confrontation bloc by sharing its nuclear weapons,” he warned, which is why he stressed that Pyongyang “will continue to promote the development of its defense capabilities.”
“Nothing will change no matter how often the United States deploys its nuclear submarines to highlight the visibility of its nuclear attack forces,” Pyongyang said, adding that it would “study countermeasures” in line with “the doctrine of mutual containment between nuclear-weapon states.” “The form and timing of its application will be determined according to the principle of symmetry and asymmetry,” he added.
