Palmeiras intend to sign midfielder Marlon Freitas from Botafogo for the 2026 season. According to the website “Well”the clubs have already started negotiations for the midfielder.
The athlete has a contract with the Rio team until the end of next year. An official proposal from Palmeiras could come in the coming days.
The São Paulo club is prioritizing the hiring of a midfielder for next season. Recently, Aníbal Moreno left the team and arranged a transfer to River Plate. Aníbal has been criticized by Palmeiras supporters for failing in decisive moments this year.
Marlon Freitas has a leadership profile and is the current captain of Botafogo. It was one of the symbols of the Rio team in 2024, when Botafogo won the Brazilian Championship and the Copa Libertadores da América.
The player is a midfielder who also stands out for his physical appearance. Marlon Freitas is characterized by the regularity and precision of his passes. The athlete still has long throws as one of his qualities. Apart from that, he supports the defensive system, presenting a great cover feel.
In some matches in 2025, Palmeiras improvised Bruno Fuchs and Andreas Pereira as midfielders. The search for Marlon Freitas is therefore one of the club’s priorities. In addition, Palmeiras wants experienced reinforcement on the market, accustomed and adapted to Brazilian football.
If hired by Palmeiras, Marlon Freitas could form a midfielder in Abel Ferreira’s team with for example Andreas Pereira, Allan and Raphael Veiga. Lucas Evangelista, who is recovering from an injury, is another option for the sector. Flaco López and Vitor Roque are the starters of the Alviverde team’s attack.
In the 2025 season, Marlon Freitas played 58 matches for Botafogo, scoring one goal and giving five assists to his teammates.
