An institutional exhibition, an international fair and a festival where art and gastronomy come together in Garzón, the season in Uruguay is redefined. Latitud Garzón wants to enliven city life through artistic, gastronomic and social proposals during December 27th and 28th 2025. One of the organizers of this festival is the art gallery Gallery Pueblo Garzón The aim is to build a bridge between emerging Argentine and Uruguayan artists and established artists.

Garzón is located east of the department of Maldonado, on the border with Rocha. Located 170 km from Montevideo and 35 kilometers north of José Ignacio, it is compared to Tuscany for its landscape of vineyards and olive trees. Until the 1950s, when the train still ran into the town, 2,000 residents lived there. Currently only 178 people live there.

The proposal will be implemented throughout the season, starting on December 27th and 28th with the Latitud Garzón Launch Festival. On this day, the Pueblo Garzón Gallery presents the exhibition Celebration with the artists Dolores Claver, Karina Sztein, Valeria Fioroni, Gi Gioia and Adriana Napoleone, while Gerardo Wohlgemuth’s sculptures from his Orthogonal series can be seen in the garden.
On Saturday, December 27th, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. you can enjoy the gastronomic offer of Mesa Garzón in the CANTEEN, while at 6 p.m. the exhibitions open at La Galerilla, the studio of William Hereford, with the exhibition “Suficiente”.
On Sunday, December 28th, there will be a tour and conversation with the artists and during the celebration visitors will be able to taste Compañía Uruguaya de Vinos de Mar’s wines and other flavors from the region.
On both days, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., visitors can tour the open studios of artists and architects, including the spaces of Mauro Arbiza Art, Observatorio Arquitectos, Fruttina and Chiara Baccanelli.
Ana Segovia from the Cervieri Monsuárez Foundation
On January 5th, the Cervieri Monsuárez Foundation will open its 2026 exhibition program The Office of Inter-American Affairs presents: Uruguay, a project by Ana Segovia (Mexico City, 1991), designed specifically for the FCM space, combining painting, installation and performance.
The exhibition brings together a series of recent paintings resulting from the analysis of two short documentaries made in the United States in the 1940s and 1950s as part of the so-called “Good neighborhood policy”. These materials They offered a simplified and stereotypical vision of Latin Americawhere its geographies and symbolic figures are equated with imaginaries typical of American cinema. In particular, the figure of the gaucho appears to be modeled on the Western cowboy, thus diluting his historical, social and territorial ties.

Ana Segovia dismantles the constructions of a social imaginary through a device that uses three classic images of film language – the establishing shot, the intershot and the close-up – translated into the same image format. The presentation of the work not only creates a kind of installation that challenges the static viewpoint of the viewer, but also opens up into the blind space of the cinematographic frame, in which the action extends beyond our field of vision and the narrative essence of the montage is articulated.

Produced by Columbia Pictures Corporation, Segovia reinterprets some of these film scenes in relation to the local landscape and the pictorial tradition of Uruguayan Planism, particularly with the chromatic sensibility and formal economy of the artist Petrona Viera (Montevideo, 1895–1960).
The works show how the local has been reinterpreted from a hegemonic perspective and open up the possibility of rethinking the connections between myth, work and representation.

The project will be completed with a sound installation in the basement of the Foundation, which will be activated by a special performance program on January 5th, 6th and 7th, developed in collaboration with the INAE – National Institute of Performing Arts, subordinate to the Ministry of Education and Culture of Uruguay. This program is part of a collaborative process with local interpreters and aims to stimulate critical reflection on the masculinities that run throughout the project.
Known for his painting practice that reinterprets visual culture to question gender roles and symbols of power, Segovia has had solo exhibitions at institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (I’ve Been Meaning to Tell You, 2024); Karen Huber Gallery, Mexico City (Landscapes, 2022); the Carrillo Gil Art Museum (Pos’ se fin esta canto, 2021); and La Faena, Bullfighting Museum and Cantina, Mexico City (2020).

From January 5th to 7th, Este Arte celebrates its 12th edition Reaffirming its profile as an international contemporary art fair of the Southern Cone at the Vik Pavilion, José Ignacio. With a curatorial vision focused on materiality, body, landscape and technology, the fair offers an expanded experience: unpublished works, individual gallery presentations and the new ESTE OFFsite program, which takes art outside the venue and activates it in gardens, beaches, architecture and territory.
