Turkish authorities arrested this Friday to a suspected member of the Islamic State jihadist group who allegedly planned an attack for New Year’s Eve, just one day after the arrest of more than a hundred suspects for planning to attack … Christmas holidays.
Security sources cited by Turkey’s official Anatolia news agency said the suspect, identified as Ibrahim Burtakucin, was arrested in the province of Matalia (east), from where he tried to go abroad to join the jihadist group.
Likewise, authorities suspect that was in contact with Islamic State sympathizers in Türkiye and abroad, without any details on their plans yet. Agents seized the group’s publications and digital devices.
One of the attacks the bloodiest of the Islamic State in Turkey was executed on January 1, 2017 in the Reina nightclub in the city of Istanbul, where dozens of people were celebrating the New Year, an event which left nearly 40 dead and 80 injured.
