For the second day in a row, the city of São Paulo records the highest temperature of the year for the capital and also the highest in the month of December according to the historical series of Inmet (National Institute of Meteorology), which began in 1943.
After the 35.9ºC mark recorded at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday (25) in Mirante de Santana, north of the city, the meteorological station recorded 36.2ºC at 3:00 p.m. this Friday (26), exceeding the previous day.
Until then, the highest temperature of the year for the capital had been 35.1°C, recorded on October 6. The highest temperature of the month was recorded on December 3, 1998, when thermometers indicated 35.6ºC in the capital.
If the inhabitants of São Paulo are already suffering from excessive heat, it is expected to increase even more in the coming days. For this reason, Inmet issued this Friday a red alert, of great danger, for the heatwave until next Monday (29), with temperatures more than 5°C higher than average.
Initially, Inmet forecasts a maximum of 33ºC on Saturday (27) and 34ºC on Sunday (28). But these values can increase with heat.
For this Friday, isolated rain showers are expected between late afternoon and early evening, like Thursday.
According to the CGE (Climate Emergency Management Center), of the São Paulo City Hall, the sweltering weather is expected to continue until Tuesday in the capital. On Wednesday (31), in turn, the extended forecasts indicate clouds, no rain and pleasant temperatures.
The trend of hot days is accompanied by the presence of a warm and humid air mass that continues to act with high intensity over southeastern Brazil, guaranteeing sunny days, with temperatures well above average in the afternoon over the capital São Paulo and neighboring cities in the metropolitan region.
The scenario is no different in other states in the region. Therefore, Inmet’s red alert also applies to the entire state of Rio de Janeiro, south of Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais and Goiás, east of Mato Grosso do Sul and north of Paraná.
A yellow heatwave alert is also active around this area, where temperatures also tend to remain high in the coming days.
