Storm Claudia Heavy rain fell this morning in the south of Avila province and north of Cáceres, which has been in a red rain warning since 6 am this morning. The water, amounting to about 150 liters in some locations, caused flooding at Avila Boat and Monumental, although damage has yet to be quantified. The councils of Extremadura, Castilla and León were able to send alerts to mobile phones so that citizens take maximum precautions and avoid unnecessary displacement.

The Tormes River near El Parco de Avila has flooded, with the city’s mayor, Pilar Arauz, telling RNE that “the entire river basin is covered.” At this time, the floods have lost intensity and the warning has been reduced to yellow, while streamflow has decreased. At 23.30 on July night, residents of the central system area and southern Avila province received an ES alert message informing them of the red meteorological warning and directing them to avoid displacement. The Dorero automated information system reported at around 7.00 that the situation was complicated in Puente del Congosto (Salamanca), due to the growing tormes, which at that moment was transporting 929 cubic meters per second, although the trend was not growing.

In the municipality of Tornavacas, 147 liters per square meter were collected overnight, and 120 liters in Purnal. The Council of Extremadura activated the flood plan and a Secopi was created to follow the development of the floods during the night.
The General Directorate of Transportation was informed of the closure of many river roads in both governorates. In Avila, interrupts AV-P-536 and AV-P-537 were cut off at 6.00 in Parco de Avila, while in Cáceres CC-224 was cut off in Hervás. The storm also forced the closure of three routes in Gran Canaria (GC-60 in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, GC-200 in Candelaria and El Risco, and GC-605 in La Culata).
