Bodybuilder Kevin Notário Nunes de Oliveira, former state champion of Mato Grosso do Sul, died this Thursday morning (26), at the age of 28, at the regional hospital in Ponta Porã, a municipality located on the border between Brazil and Paraguay. The death was confirmed by the athlete’s father, Councilor Marcelino Nunes de Oliveira.
According to information released by the family, Kevin was rushed to the hospital after feeling severe pain in his thigh. After running tests, doctors diagnosed necrotizing fasciitis, a rare infection that progresses rapidly in muscle tissue.
The athlete underwent emergency surgery on Wednesday afternoon (25) and remained intubated. Despite the intervention, he could not resist the complications of the infection and died around 10 a.m. this Thursday.
Known in the Mato Grosso do Sul bodybuilding scene, Kevin has won state titles and been recognized for his dedication to the sport.
On social networks, the father associated his son’s death with the risks of illegal use of substances to quickly gain muscle mass, without however specifying which products were used.
“The search for the ideal body led to my son Kevin’s childhood. Let this case serve as a warning to other young people and athletes who think about resorting to risky methods to improve their results,” said the councilor.
Kevin leaves two twin daughters. The body would rest in the mortuary chapel of Pax, in Ponta Porã. The family was grateful for the expressions of support and solidarity.
