Canada has notified the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of the reopening of the Brazilian chicken meat market. The Canadian government had suspended the importation of the protein due to the recording of a case of bird flu on a commercial farm in the south of the country in the first half of this year. Canada was the last country to maintain restrictions on Brazilian chicken meat.
— We ended the year with the good news of the resumption of the last market that was closed due to the case of avian flu — said the president of the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), Ricardo Santin, also rejoicing at the fact that the sector’s exports show growth compared to last year.
The only case of bird flu recorded in Brazil occurred in Montenegro (RS), but was quickly brought under control. The registration took place on May 16, and by June 18 the country was already free of the disease.
Over the past few months, major international destinations have gradually resumed shipments of chicken meat from Brazil. Recently, the European Union announced the normalization of flows. Other strategic markets have followed suit. China was second to last.
— The reopening of Canada concludes an exemplary process of health and diplomatic management. Brazil acted with transparency, technical rigor and agility. It has demonstrated the solidity of its agricultural defense system and the maturity of its international relations – adds Santin, emphasizing the coordinated work of the government.
ABPA also emphasizes that the completion of this process confirms the country’s capacity to manage health events in a technical, responsible manner and in accordance with international standards.
