Indonesian rescue teams are searching this Saturday for four Spaniards, two adults and two children, who went missing on Friday after a boat capsized near the island of Padar, east of Bali. Two other Spaniards were rescued from the boat, in which eleven people were traveling, and they are fine.
Foreign sources confirmed to EL PAÍS that Indonesian authorities have confirmed to Spain the disappearance of the four family members, after a shipwreck and that rescue teams are still looking for them. “The Consulate in Jakarta is paying full consular attention to two other people in the group who are now out of danger, moving staff to Labuan Bajo and in contact with the families of those affected,” these sources add.
The Indonesian emergency service SAR explained in a statement that the missing people (a couple and their two children) came from Spain, as did two other people already rescued, as well as four crew members and a tourist guide.
Apparently, poor sea conditions, with strong waves, caused the shipwreck. “This complicated our task during the initial searches,” Stephanus Risdiyanto, director of the port authority of the tourist destination of Labuan Bajo, told the Indonesian agency.
The boat for tourist use, called KM Putri Sakinahsank in the waters of Padar around 8:30 p.m. Friday (2:30 p.m. Spanish Peninsula Time) after suffering an engine failure, according to preliminary information.
