The same week as the death of coach Cláudio Mortari, basketball also bids farewell to Maria Aparecida Cardoso Guimarães, better known as Cida Guimarães, who died this Saturday (27).
The information was broadcast this morning on the social networks of the Brazilian Basketball Confederation. The former center says goodbye at the age of 95 and the cause of death has not been communicated by the CBB.
Double South American basketball champion in 1954 and 1958, Cida was one of the pioneers of women’s basketball in the country, especially in an unfavorable context for women in this sport.
Cida is the mother of four children, including basketball player Cadum Guimarães. Additionally, she is the sister of Maria Helena Cardoso, a famous Brazilian basketball coach.
Consult the official CBB note:
“Brazilian basketball lost one of its first stars this Saturday, on and off the field. Maria Aparecida Cardoso Guimarães, Cida, left us.
Double South American champion with the Brazilian team in 1954 and 1959, Cida helped to chart a solid path for the new generations who would come later, breaking down prejudices and conquering spaces and titles!
Cida started the journey of a basketball family and is the mother of our beloved Cadum Guimarães, Eduardo, Ângela and Márcia, as well as the sister of Maria Helena Cardoso..
Our condolences to friends and family. Cida is an example of determination, talent and love for basketball and life!”
