After the release of Avatar: Fire and Ashes, Disney is planning two additional films to end the franchise, one of the most profitable in cinema history. James Cameron, the filmmaker responsible for the saga, however, opened up and said he was prepared if the plans did not go as planned.
In a recent interview, the director admitted that he thought Avatar would end its theatrical journey as a simple trilogy if the third film didn’t do “well” at the box office.

“I don’t know if the saga goes beyond this point, but I hope it does,” Cameron said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. It is worth remembering that the two previous films together exceeded the US$2 billion mark globally.
Cameron, however, promised that he would not disappoint fans and would ensure that plot details of Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, scheduled for 2029 and 2032 respectively, were disclosed in the event of cancellation by the studio.
“You know, we prove this business case every time we release something… If we can’t make 4 and 5, for whatever reason, I’ll hold a press conference and tell you what we were planning to do. How about this?” the filmmaker suggested.
He further added that there is a possibility that the film’s scripts will be published in book form later. “There’s so much culture and history and side details in these characters that have already been developed. I would love to do something that has that level of detail,” he said.
