Aston Villa, whose star players include Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez, beat Chelsea 2-1 as visitors, setting a historic record and staying in contention for the Premier League title.
Chelsea had taken the lead in the first half with a goal from Brazilian striker Joao Pedro, but Aston Villa turned things around in a superb second half thanks to a brace from English attacker Ollie Watkins, the hero of the London evening.
Joao Pedro was responsible for the only goal of the first half when he deflected the ball in the six-yard box after a poor reaction from “Dibu” Martínez to a corner.
However, Aston Villa showed an impressive response in the second half. They scored their first equalizer in the 18th minute, shortly after coming off the bench.

When it finally looked like things were going to end evenly, Watkins became the hero, dominating the treble and making it 2-1 to Aston Villa with just over five minutes to play.
This magnificent victory at Stanford Bridge allowed Aston Villa to reach the magnificent mark of 11 consecutive wins, a run that had not been achieved since 1914, and reach 39 points to remain third, just three points behind leaders Arsenal.
Argentinian midfielder Emiliano Buendía also played for Aston Villa, who is central to the Villains this season.
Chelsea, for its part, had Argentinians Enzo Fernández and Alejandro Garncacho in the starting line-up. The London team has just 29 points to its name, is fifth in the table and is far from achieving the consistency that would allow it to fight for the title.
At the next appointment Aston Villa will have an unbeatable chance as they will visit Arsenal and if they beat them they will reach first place.
