The city of São Paulo could record this Sunday (28) the highest temperature for the month of December since 1943, the date of the beginning of the historic series of Inmet (National Institute of Meteorology).
According to the federal body linked to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, the maximum temperature should reach 38°C. The trend is for the minimums to be 23°C.
If the forecasts of Inmet meteorologists are confirmed, the capital São Paulo should record the third record of the month in less than a week.
On Friday (26), the institute recorded 36.2°C at 3 p.m., recording the highest temperature of the year for the capital and also the highest for the month of December in the historical series, which began in 1943.
And this happened a day after the city reached 35.9°C, Thursday (25) at 4 p.m., in Mirante de Santana, north of the city, where the Inmet measurement, the official measurement of the municipality, is carried out.
This Saturday (27), the maximum reached 35.1°C, at 3 p.m., at the meteorological station.
The São Paulo metropolitan area is part of Inmet’s red alert zone, of great danger due to high temperatures.
According to the institute, the heatwave — when the temperature is 5°C above average for a period of more than five days — is expected to continue until Monday (29).
According to the CGE (Emergency Management Center), of the São Paulo City Hall, between the afternoon and early evening of this Sunday, isolated rain showers are expected, which could be of high intensity. “There is a risk of hail and localized gusts of wind,” he said.
For those who spent their New Year’s weekend at the beach, it’s a good idea to take care of your sunscreen and your health. The maximum temperature forecast for Santos, in Baixada Santista, is 38°C this Sunday.
In Ubatuba, on the north coast of São Paulo, thermometers are expected to reach 35°C.
The heat on the beach is expected to persist until the beginning of the year. On Wednesday (31), the maximum temperature forecast for the coast of São Paulo is at least 33°C.
BRAZIL ALERT
Inmet has issued a warning of great danger due to a heat wave affecting 1,284 municipalities in Brazil. The area under red alert covers the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, northern Paraná and southern Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo.
The category is the third and most serious of the institute, and continues until next Monday. The warning has exceeded the previous one, orange (danger), and indicates a health risk. With the approach of a cold front, which brings rain to the Southeast at the start of the week, there could be a change in the thermometers, although the weather will remain warm.
