Ricaço saw his assets decrease by around 331 billion reais and left the list of the 10 richest people in the world.
Summary
Bill Gates was the billionaire who lost the most money in 2025, with a reduction of around 220 billion reais due to philanthropic donations, stock sales and recalculations of his fortune, falling to 16th position in the world ranking.
Unlike names like Elon Musk – who became the first person to have a net worth of more than $600 billion (3.3 trillion reais, at current prices) – Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos, who inflated their fortunes in 2025, one billionaire lost almost $60 billion (331 billion reais) this year and left the list of the 10 richest people in the world: Bill Gates.
The Microsoft co-founder saw his fortune decline after a recalculation carried out by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, a technology company for the financial market, which also took into account Bill Gates’ donations, through his philanthropic foundation, to charitable causes.
Part of the loss is also due to the sale of Microsoft shares. Steve Ballmer, former CEO of the company, absorbed a considerable portion of the shares owned by Gates.
The sharp drop occurred in July, when the update of the Bloomberg was published, and Bill Gates fell to 16th place on the list of the richest people: between July 2 and 4, the billionaire’s wealth increased from $175 billion (965 billion reais) to $124 billion (684 billion reais).
Bill Gates’ fortune continued to decline in the second half of 2025, and as of December 10, it stood at around US$116 billion (Reais 640 billion), according to Bloomberg.
The storyline also concerns a promise the billionaire made in 2010, in which he pledged to allocate his wealth to philanthropic funds. His foundation works in several countries to eradicate diseases such as malaria, improve education and combat lack of sanitation.
