In mid-December 2025, two reports of the theft of items in vehicles parked in Mar del Plata triggered warnings about a modality that is causing concern at the beginning of the holidays: The use of signal locks prevents the doors from being centrally locked and makes theft easier without visible damage. As the investigation continued, the judiciary ordered raids and seized items that could be related to these events.. As of press time, there have been no arrests and the suspects, two brothers aged 29 and 24, remain at large.
The first episode was reported on December 16, 2025. A 32-year-old man reported that he had parked his white Volkswagen Amarok on Avenida Luro and Francia that morning. When he returned, he found that unknown persons had opened the vehicle without breaking the glass and had stolen two backpacks containing personal documents, keys to his property and a computer from the interior. The absence of damage to the vehicle strengthened the hypothesis of an opening by devices interfering with the remote command signal.
Four days later, on December 20, a 49-year-old man reported to Buenos Aires police that he had abandoned his black Amarok on Salta Street between Colón and Bolívar.. An hour later, when he returned and got into the vehicle, he noticed the theft of several wetsuits, credit cards, a battery-operated drill and clothing. In both cases, the stolen items were in the vehicles and the perpetrators did not break any locks or windows.
Based on the complaints, employees of the Technical Operations Office of the 4th Police Station conducted an investigation of private cameras, which made it possible to identify the vehicle that was allegedly used in the robberies. The vehicle was located at 5800 Saavedra and with these elements, a search and seizure warrant was executed for a black Suzuki Fun.
During the process, various types of goods were seized that could correspond to the loot or the equipment used in the events: a Viewsonic screen with a black case, a Verbatim brand wireless mouse, a black Nike Utility 2.0 backpack, a Baofeng brand frequency inhibitor with charging station, a fire extinguisher marked NZR 854, a blue bag with gray details, 21 neoprene surfing suits of various brands and the black Suzuki Fun vehicle.
Once the operation was completed, the results were communicated to the relevant judicial authority. Prosecutor Fernando Berlingeri ordered the judicial seizure of the items and ordered residents of the home to be notified of the case. In accordance with this decision, no measures restricting freedom were taken and the defendant remained available for the investigation. The case was classified as grand larceny with a lock pick, false key or other instrument.
The investigation is based on private camera recordings, the discovery of the car shown in the videos and the seizure of assets in the house associated with the vehicle. This sequence made it possible to reconstruct a possible crime cycle in which, without damaging the vehicles, rapid access is made to the interior and removal of valuable objects, consistent with the use of signal inhibitors to lift the remote blockade. This modality becomes relevant during periods of high tourist traffic, when many motorists park in central or coastal areas and leave bags, equipment or documents in the vehicles.
The case remains in the hands of the UFI, led by Prosecutor Berlingeri, together with the Guarantee Court No. 6. The concern of investigators and residents is that this modality is non-violent, but has a great impact on the security of everyday life and property and tends to increase in times of high tourist flows. In this context, the file attempts to establish responsibilities, connections between the seized objects and the reported events, as well as the possible involvement of other employees.
