The Armed Forces of Ukraine said on Sunday (December 28, 2025) that they had hit the Russian Sirzan refinery in the Samara region with a drone strike, where a fire broke out.
“In order to reduce the economic and military potential of the Russian aggressor, members of the Ukrainian Defense Forces attacked the Sirzan refinery in the Samara region of the Russian Federation. A drone attack was registered, followed by a fire,” the armed forces said on their Facebook account.
The statement highlighted that the refinery, with a capacity of between 7 and 8.9 million tons, takes part in supplying the Russian aggressor army.
The attack on the facility caused a fire and the damage was still being assessed, the Kiev General Staff said in a statement.
The same message reported an attack on a warehouse in the occupied Crimean peninsula and another on a workshop in the occupied part of Luhansk.
Rockets against the Novoshakhtinsk refinery
It also reported a “successful attack” with long-range Storm Shadow cruise missiles on the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in Russia’s Rostov region, which borders Ukraine to the west.
“Numerous explosions were registered. We hit the target. The extent of the damage is being determined,” the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces wrote on its Telegram channel.
In the short statement, he assured that the Novoshakhtinsk refinery is one of the largest suppliers of petroleum products in southern Russia and supplies the Russian army with diesel fuel and kerosene for aviation.
