North Korea fired two long-range cruise missiles into the sea, state media in Pyongyang reported on Monday (December 29, 2025).
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un oversaw the exercise, which took place over the Yellow Sea on Sunday, and called for the “unlimited and sustainable” development of his country’s nuclear forces, KCNA news agency said.
It appears to be the first test of its kind since North Korea tested a ballistic missile in the Sea of Japan in early November.
Initially only one shot was reported, but later it was said that two rockets had been fired over the Yellow Sea.
According to the Yonhap news agency, South Korean forces reported that they had detected the firing of several missiles from the Sunan area near Pyongyang.
The aim of the exercise is to assess the “response and combat capability of long-range missile subunits,” the KCNA said.
