The start of summer in Brazil was marked by contrasts. While the Southeast was faced with a severe heatwave, with record temperatures in cities like São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, the South experienced the passage of cold fronts, responsible for intense rains and heavy accumulations. In the Center-West and the North, heat prevailed, accompanied by showers typical of the season, and on the Northeast coast, firm weather guaranteed sunny days and high temperatures. Now the focus turns to New Year’s Eve, when millions of Brazilians prepare to travel, reunite with family or watch fireworks at beaches and tourist attractions. Forecasts indicate a typical summer scenario, with heat across almost the entire country and instability concentrated mainly in the Center-South.
According to meteorologists, cold fronts are expected to act in the final days of 2025, increasing humidity and favoring the formation of thick clouds in the South, Southeast and Center-West regions. The tendency is for irregular showers, especially between the afternoon and evening, without taking away the heat.
On New Year’s Eve, the risk of rain is greater in the South and Southeast. In Curitiba the forecast is the most intense, with a high risk of thunderstorms and temperatures between 18°C and 26°C. Porto Alegre is expected to have sunshine between the clouds, a high of 32°C and the possibility of isolated showers overnight, which could bring light rain during the countdown. São Paulo will be hot from the start, with a minimum of 21°C and a maximum of 29°C, and quick showers throughout the day and night. In Rio, thermometers vary between 23°C and 32°C, with heavier rains in the afternoon and at night. Belo Horizonte follows the same pattern, with typical summer showers as New Year’s Eve approaches. Vitória appears as an exception in the southeast, with sunshine, constant wind, temperatures between 25°C and 32°C, and firm weather at night.

In the Midwest, heat dominates, but humidity maintains the chance of rain. Campo Grande may record isolated showers until early evening, while Cuiabá remains hot, with a risk of rapid rain even at night. Brasília and Goiânia have a high chance of rain, with the overturning likely to occur under cloudy skies and light showers.
The North-East coast stands out as the most favorable destination for observing fires. Capitals like Salvador, Aracaju, Maceió, Recife, João Pessoa, Natal and Fortaleza are expected to have sunshine between the clouds, constant wind, temperatures around 30°C and little or no rain during New Year’s Eve. Inland, the heat intensifies, with temperatures reaching 34°C in cities like Teresina.

In the North, New Year’s Eve follows the Amazonian summer pattern, with sunshine in the morning, increasing clouds in the afternoon, and quick showers. Maximum temperatures are around 30°C and New Year’s Eve night may have cloudy skies and temporary rain in some capitals. Belém is expected to face intense heat, with a maximum of 33°C and a slight chance of rain on New Year’s Eve, while Amapá remains under the influence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone, with more frequent rains.
After the turnaround, between January 2 and 4, forecasts indicate an intensification of rains in the southeast, with higher volumes in the areas of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, keeping the summer marked by heat and instability.
