Does lightning strike the same place twice? Contrary to popular belief, when a place is subject to electrical discharges, lightning can strike several times. For two lottery houses in the Federal District, where the winning bets came from the last Mega da Virada, the logic of lightning is expected to be repeated in the field of luck.

Renato Souza has owned Real Lotérica, located in Asa Norte de Brasilia, for 30 years. But only last year he managed to win a big prize, and it was precisely with Mega da Virada. After that, about a month ago, Quina’s main prize worth 18 million reais was also won. “This year we have already awarded two great prizes. Something rare, you know? Or almost impossible,” he says.

The bet made in your lottery last year was a lottery of three odd numbers, each with a total of R$26,478,590.22, out of the R$80 million awarded to the eight bets corresponding to the numbers drawn during the Mega da Virada 2024.

About 12 km from Real Lotérica is Onze da Sorte, in Lago Sul, where a winning bet also came from. But there, the winners have not yet given up on their dream – or their addiction – to the lottery. “For my clients, who I know, not much has changed. They even continue to bet,” says Sarah Sousa, who has worked at the lottery for 12 years.

From Onze da Sorte, a pool of 30 odds was released, with each bettor winning R$2,647,859.02. The value is already capable of getting many people out of trouble, but it is far from the price figures accumulated by Caixa. For this year, the Mega da Virada prize is expected to be between 850 million and 1 billion reais.

With projections this high, sales are already in full swing. The Onze da Sorte lottery has another big prize that gives it its popularity among players: in 2021, the winner of a Mega-Sena competition with a prize of more than R$ 35 million appeared.

“These prices generate a lot of movement here for us. There are people from other states and even out of the country who come and bet here,” Sarah says.

The luckiest lotteries in Brazil

Despite the fame of last year’s Mega da Virada, Real Lotérica and Onze da Sorte are not among Brazil’s luckiest in 2024, according to Caixa’s ranking. But it is a Federal District lottery, tied with two others from São Paulo, that occupies first place, with five bets winning the top prize in regular contests.
