Judge Josep Tomàs Salàs Darrocha was appointed this Monday as the new director of the Anti-Fraud Office of Catalonia, following the publication of his election in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat of Catalonia (DOGC). Salàs will leave the Criminal Court number 22 of Barcelona … after the autonomous Parliament elected him in plenary session on December 17 with votes in favor of the tripartite: CPS, ERC and Commons; and upon successful completion of the Institutional Affairs Committee’s adequacy assessment. His appointment comes at the suggestion of the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa.
Salàs (Barcelona, 1961), who replaced Miguel Angel Gimeno, He served as a magistrate in Manresa, Vic and at the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC), as a lawyer assigned to the presidency of the highest judicial body at the regional level. Previously, Salàs was a lawyer at the Administration of Justice and a member of the Barcelona Bar, between 1996 and 2008. He also gave courses and published more than 50 articles, according to the Anti-Fraud Office.
The new head of the autonomous entity, responsible for preserving the transparency and integrity of the administrations and personnel of the public sector of Catalonia, as well as preventing and investigating possible cases of fraud with public funds, among other crimes, replaces Gimeno, who was the superior of the TSJC of Salàs (judge via the fourth team) between 2011 and 2013. Gimeno was responsible for the Anti-Fraud Office. since 2016.
