Genneia, the largest renewable energy production company in Argentina, is founded expected operation approx. 140 MW of the San Rafael solar park in the province of Mendoza, one of the most relevant current solar developments in the country. With an installed capacity of 180 MW and an investment of US$180 million, this project consolidates Mendoza’s strategic role in the development of an efficient and sustainable energy infrastructure.
The San Rafael Solar Park has 400,000 solar panels deliver competitive and clean energy to residential customers under the Renewable Energy Term Market (MATER) regulatory framework. To measure its scale, the park’s production is equivalent to the electricity consumption of approximately 135,000 households.
This park is Genneia’s third in Mendoza It is located on a 500-hectare property in the 25 de Mayo district. During its construction phase, the project created jobs for more than 300 people and stimulated the regional economy.
Jimena LatorreMinister of Energy and Environment of Mendoza, emphasized that “the commissioning of the San Rafael solar park is taking place an important milestone for Mendoza’s energy matrix. “Projects of this type strengthen our positioning as a province committed to sustainable development and attracting strategic investments.”
The new Genneia solar park
On his part Bernardo AndrewsCEO of Genneia, noted: “The opening of the San Rafael Solar Park represents a fundamental step in our growth strategy. This project demonstrates that it is possible to develop large-scale energy infrastructure.” positive impact on the environment and the regional economywhich accompanies the Argentine industry’s growing need for competitive energy.”
With the park’s early entry, Mendoza solidifies itself as strategic pole for the production of clean energy in the country. Genneia’s presence in the province has resulted in an investment of more than $400 million to date and adds 410 MW of installed capacity to the Mater.
There are 400,000 modules installed in the San Rafael Solar Park
It is estimated that this capacity will be increased by a further 40 MW in the first quarter of 2026once Parque San Rafael receives full commercial approval. In addition, this milestone highlights the synergies between the public and private sectors to optimize the use of energy resources, reduce emissions and strengthen the competitiveness of the national production system.
Genneia is considered the leader in providing sustainable energy solutions in Argentina, with 20% of total installed capacity, 21% of wind energy generation and 12% of solar energy.
The recent commissioning of the San Rafael solar park in Mendoza, together with the commissioning of the Anchoris solar park and the inauguration of the La Elbita wind farm in the province of Buenos Aires, increases Genneia’s total renewable energy capacity to more than 1,540 MW.
The company is currently pushing ahead with the construction of the San Juan Sur solar park with an output of 130 MW in San Juan province. With its six operational solar parks – Ullum I, II and III, Sierras de Ullum, Tocota III, Malargüe I – as well as Anchoris and the recent incorporation of San Rafael (140 MW), Genneia reaches a total installed solar energy capacity of 630 MW.
Solar expansion in Mendoza
With these advances, Mendoza consolidates itself as the province with the largest number of private solar projects in the country, thanks to sustainable government planning, technical design coordinated by EMESA and a stable business climate that allowed it to attract large investments.
One of the most important developments is: Anchoris Solar Park, also from Genneia, with 180 MW installed capacityan investment of $160 million, more than 360,000 bifacial panels, capacity to power 125,000 homes, an estimated reduction of 220,000 tons of CO₂ per year and more than 350 workers involved in the construction.
Added to this is the Aconcagua Solar Park, located in Luján de Cuyo and developed by Tango Energy in collaboration with EMESA with a total of 90 MW, which started operations with the injection of 25 MW into the power grid.
In the southern province is the Malargüe solar park with an installed capacity of 90 MW. At the same time, the project El Quemado, supported by YPF Luz It envisages a capacity of 305 MW, positioning itself as one of the largest photovoltaic projects in the country.
In it distributed and cooperative generation systemCoperote I was founded, a project of the Federation of Electricity Cooperatives of Nuevo Cuyo, equipped with 5,832 state-of-the-art photovoltaic panels, adding additional capacity to the system and strengthening the province’s energy transition process.
Taken together, these developments allow us to project this Mendoza will reach around 700 MW of installed solar energy by 2026With more than 1,000 additional MW in its portfolio, the province is solidifying its position as a national benchmark for the energy transition.
