Including weight training into the routine also allows the runner to train more. This is what sports coach José Carlos Fernando, Sports Director at Ztrack – Esporte e Saúde, explains.
“Muscular strength work contributes to several factors. Achieving greater muscle resistance to be able to withstand training or racing for longer, endurance to repetitive loads to be able to maintain the desired race pace for longer, as well as generally preparing the muscles and tendons for the weekly training load, and avoiding injuries.”
